ARCTIC BLAST ON FRIDAY, STILL FRIGID WITH DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS FOR MUCH OF THE CHRISTMAS WEEKEND

*** An ARCTIC Blast is coming to East Tennessee starting late Tonight into early Friday morning!  12 AM to 8 AM Friday morning, to be precise.  Think layers.  We could drop 20° in 1 hour...and drop a total of 40° in 8 hours.  Plus, by Friday and Friday evening, wind chills across East Tennessee could easily reach -15° below zero or colder.  And much colder in the Smokies  (-25° to -40° below zero) ***

*** Parts of the Plateau may see some locally higher SNOW amounts.  I am expecting 1" to 3" + of SNOW in Fentress and Cumberland Counties, for example.  But isolated 4" or 5" + may be observed there.  ***

ARCTIC BLAST, a free fall in temperatures and wind chills.  This starts between 12 AM and 8 AM Friday morning for Knoxville and the Valley (about 2 to 3 hours sooner for the Plateau).  Strong wind gusts 35 to 50 mph, initially, as the temperatures plunge.  More rain showers develop for the early evening, giving way to snow showers, some accumulation is expected.  Lows around 6°.  Wind chills:  around to -15° below ZERO

Friday:
Very early snow showers fade, 80% chance, then partly to mostly cloudy and frigid with more flurries.
12 Midnight highs near 27°.  MOST OF THE DAY spent in the single digits to around 12° above with those COLDER wind chills.   Daytime gusts of wind around 30 to 40 mph.

Friday night:
Partly to mostly cloudy, still gusty, stray flurries, frigid, lows around 6°
Wind chills:  -3° to -15° below ZERO

Christmas Eve / Saturday: 
Partly to mostly cloudy, stray flakes, frigid, highs in the lower 20s

Christmas Eve Night:
Scattered clouds decrease, lows around 11°

Christmas Day:
Mostly sunny, cold, highs in the upper 20s to near 30°
